Intellectual Engagement

During the spring and fall semesters, the Association meets once a month for lunch, a short business meeting and a presentation on a variety of topics by noted experts in their fields. The past year attendees learned about the security plans in place for the Nebraska Stadium and other athletic events from Butch Hug, Associate Athletic Director for Facilities & Event Management and Mark Robertson, Emergency Management Coordinator, University Police, challenges for managing water and food security from Christopher Neale, Research Director at the Robert B. Daugherty Water for Food Institute located at the University of Nebraska Innovation Campus, expectations for the future at UNL from newly designated Chancellor Ronnie Green, and an analysis of  the 2016 elections from Dona-Gene Barton, associate professor of political science at UNL. Other speakers included  Susan Weller, Director of the University of Nebraska Museum and Professor of Entomology at UNL,  Shawn Eichorst, Director of Athletics at UNL, and Joe Starita, Professor of Journalism at UNL who will discuss his newly published book about America‚Äôs first Native American doctor, Susan La Flesche Picotte.
