April 2013 Board Minutes Wick Alumni Center

Members Present: Agnes Adams, Allen Blezek, Duane Eversoll, Jack Goebel, Doug Jose, Jim Kendrick, Roger Kirby, Bob Kuzelka, Jim McShane, Kay Rockwell, Alan Seagren, Delivee Wright, Doug Zatechka and Andrea Cranford.

Allen Blezek, President, called the meeting to order at 1:00 pm.

1. Andrea Cranford, Alumni Association, reported on the following activities: Cap/GownSenior even; Scarlett Guards with 1200 members; The May 2nd Award Banquet with the Doc Eliott Award going to Pres. Al Blezek; recent magazine featuring an article on Prof. Boohar as “The Most Unforgettable Professor”; The Alumni Transcription project which will make Cornhusker Yearbooks, as well as other UNL materials downloadable; and other travel opportunities.

2. Memory Moments: Lyle Schreiner, IANR; and Eunice Eddy, widow of Lyle Eddy, History and Philosophy of Education.

3. President Blezek announced that a representative from the NU Foundation will review ourfinances at the May 16th Board Meeting, at 1:00 pm. He noted a change in our meeting date to accommodate this activity.

4. Jim McShane, Faculty Senate Liaison, reported that Chancellor Perlman has hired a law student to update the UNL By-Laws. Also, campus computers with unlicensed software will incur fines to be paid by the user.

5. 2016 Big Ten Retirees Association Meeting. Jack Goebel said two dates on weekends in August 2016 (5-7 or 12-14) have been identified for the meeting. The University of Minnesota will host the 2013 Meeting. At the May meeting of the Board, finances will be discussed.

6. Treasurer’s Update. Agnes Adams distributed a Project Detail Report which identified income and expenditures for the Emeriti Association for the past several years, as well as withdrawals and distributions from the Wisherd Funds. See attachments. The Board will discuss issues related to finance at the next meeting. Agnes also strongly urged the identification of a second person such as an assistant treasurer who could access the organization’s financial resources. Doug Jose volunteered to do check-in for the luncheon next week.

7. Roger Kirby, Membership Chair, reported an effort is being made to sort out the life members so dues reminders will go to those annual members only. He has not received names of those who became emeriti in December 2012.

8 Member Relations Report: Bob Kuzelka, reported Coffee Chats as follows:

Wednesday, May 1st, 9:30 am, “May Day Fete” at UNL Nine Mile Prairie with a tour, coffee, and refreshments. Professor Dave Wedin, UNL School of Natural Resources and prairie manager will be our guide.

Coffee Chats will continue monthly through the summer with venues to be announced.
