October 2010 Board Minutes Wick Alumni Center

Members Present: Agnes Adams, Bob Diffendal , Jack Goebel, Herb Howe, Jim Kendrick, Lowell Moser, Tice Miller. Jerry Petr, Stan Vasa, , Daniel Wheeler, and Delivee Wright.

1. Andrea Cranford provided an update on the recent activities of the Alumni Association. She distributed a Football Friday announcement.

2. Minutes for the September 21, 2010, member meeting are in the process of being posted. Minutes of the September 7, 2010, Board meeting are also in process. Please review the Board Minutes as distributed.

3. Agnes Adams gave the Treasurer’s Report on current status.

Old Business

1. Herb Howe and Dan Wheeler will be leaving to attend the AROHE meeting in Middleton, CN, on Thursday.

2. No new nominations for Vice-President/President Elect and a Board Member have been received. Nominations will close Oct. 21, 2010.

New Business

1. The Annual Board Retreat for Planning for 2011 will be held December 7, 2010, in place of the usual monthly board meeting. Herb Howe asked members to think of topics that should be considered during the retreat.

2. Herb indicated that a communication inviting us to consider joining the Big Ten Emeriti Associations has been was received. It was suggested that this be a topic for the December Board Retreat. It will be considered in light of implications for further activity with AROHE.

Committee Reports

1. Member Relations Committee Chair Tice Miller, reported on several items:

  • We need to renew the New Emeriti Association color brochure if it is to be continued. A discussion of its value was supportive of continuing its production. Dan and Herb will take 50 to the AROHE meeting.
  • The Oral History Project presently has twelve completed interviews and ten have been completed in the dept. of Agronomy. Tice recommended this as an agenda item for the December Retreat; he will work possible plans.
  • Tice asked about doing another Halloween activity related to stories on campus as we did last year in the Temple Building. It was suggested that physics might be a possibility and that Tice should visit with Prof. Dean Rugg   of  Physics.
  • New Faculty Coffee this month had fewer participants but the Coffees will be continued.

2. Wisherd Committee Chair, Bob Diffendal, reported that members have been notified about Wisherd Grant opportunities. At present no member has applied. He also shared a report from a research study on Western Nebraska funded last year. Consideration of the use of these funds is another Retreat Topic.

3. Membership Chair, Mel Thornton, sent a report in his absence as follows: 210 Annual Members, 160 Life Members, 36 New 2010 Members, 14 New 2011 Members, 137 spouse members with a total of 548 members.

4. Benefits Committee Chair, Jack Goebel, reported no new items.

5. Website Chair, Jim Kendrick, shared the variety of hits on the Emeriti web site recently.

6. Senate Committee made No Report.
