Reports

As of April 29, 2009 we have:
  • 247 Annual members
  • 144 Life members
  • 29 New 09 members
  • 8 New 10 members
  • 126 Surviving Spouse/Partner members, and
  • 234 Emeriti non-members.

The perceptive reader will note here that even with the recently appointed emeriti (the 8 New10 members) these numbers are larger than those reported on the website and at the last meeting. That is because of the 2 annual and 7 non-members who requested no more communication with the Association and were therefore not listed on the database.
Hereafter I will always include these folk in the count, but we will take care not to send them messages.

Possible Emeriti Association Membership Categories

At the May 13, 2008 Board Meeting of the Emeriti Aassociation, the Membership committee presented various "options" for additional membership categories to the Board.  Now there are three categories, Annual, Lifetime, and Honorary.

An option{called Collegial below} was moved, discussed, amended, then tabled.

Collegial Membership. Any person holding Emeritus or Emerita status from any University may be invited by the Board to join the Association as a dues-paying collegial member.

This option was taken off of the table, discussed and postponed to the November meeting.  Fuller and Moser will have returned from the AROHE meeting and can share with the Board what the other Emeriti organizations do about membership requirements.

Three other membership categories were presented:

Special Membership. A person with substantial service rendered to the University in teaching, research, extension, or administration in a professional field may apply for invitational membership. The application must be endorsed by the appropriate UNL department. It is expected that applicants would be at least 55 years of age, retired, and have been employed by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (any branch?) for at least ten years.

Invitational Membership. The Board may invite any person with substantial interest in and experience with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to join the Association.

Courtesy Membership. Membership (dues-paying, non-voting) is granted to a person who is invited to join the Association by at least one regular member of the Association. It is expected that a Courtesy Member will be at least 55 years of age, retired, and have an interest in higher education.

Of course, if any of these motions pass, we also need to decide what benefits would be enjoyed: voting rights, complimentary first year membership, dues-paying, holding office. From our previous discussion, it is clear Wisherd funds are available only to UNL emeriti.
