March 2014 Association Minutes East Campus Union

A luncheon was served to approximately 69 members with several brown bagging members.

Program:  Vice-President, Duane Eversoll, introduced Mark Traynowicz, Bridge Engineer for the Nebraska Department of roads who presented a program on "A Look at Nebraska's Bridges – In Light of recent Collapses in Other States."  He presented information on definitions, types, and inspection and assessment  policies for Nebraska bridges. He used illustrations and photos of the wide variety of bridges and the issues related to their maintenance and construction approaches.  Reasons for collapse or damage were explained.  After a question period, Mr. Traynowicz was presented with an Emeriti Mug and thanked for his presentation.

Business Meeting.  Duane Eversoll, in the absence of the president, convened the business meeting at 1:30 pm.  He reminded members the Minutes and Treasurer's Report can be found on the Emeriti web site www.emeriti.unl.edu.

Memory Moments:  Ted H. Doane, Animal Science; Frank Smith, Conservation and Survey.

By-Laws Change was announced with voting at the April meeting as follows:

Existing language:  These nominations shall be presented to the Emeriti Association at its September meeting with the request that the Association Membership seek additional nominations for either or both offices providing that they have ascertained that these Members would accept these offices if elected.

New Language:  These nominations shall be presented to the Emeriti Association in September with the request that the Association Membership seek additional nominations for either or both offices providing that they have ascertained that these Members would accept these offices if elected.

Justification:  This change brings the Bylaws into conformity with current practice.  Additionally, it allows nominations to be presented via email to the entire membership at the same time.

Coffee House Chats.   Both will be held in the Crescent Moon Coffee House below Ten thousand Villages, 8th and P Streets; or, if weather permits, across P Street in the Courtyard.  Email reminders will be sent one week prior to the event.  Questions?  Contact Nancy Aden at nancyaden51@gmail.com.
