January 2013 Board Minutes Wick Alumni Center
Members Present: Allen Blezek, John Comer, Duane Eversoll, Jack Goebel, Doug Jose, Jim Kendrick, Roger Kirby, Bob Kuzelka, Jim McShane, Delivee Wright, Doug Zatechka and Andrea Cranford.
Allen Blezek, President, called the meeting to order at 1:00 pm.
1. Andrea Cranford, Alumni Association, distributed the recent edition of Nebraska Magazine, and updated the benefits of belonging to the Alumni Association. Use of the Nebraska Club, A-list event ticket access, and golf discounts are new and join the Legacy Program for children and grandchildren. These benefits will be linked to the Emeriti Association web page.
2. Comments by Allen Blezek. Allen thanked Jack Goebel for his leadership in the past year and all his efforts on behalf of the Emeriti Association. He suggested that we try to limit our Board meetings to one hour, recognizing that we may occasionally have pressing business that would take longer. The suggestion was accepted.
3. Memory Moments include: Gary Garey, Cooperative Extension; Lee Witters, Curriculum and Instruction; John Weymouth, Physics and Astronomy; Lyle Young, Civil Engineering.
4. Steering Committee for the 2016 Big Ten Retirees Association Meeting. Jack Goebel has received information from Ohio State University on their planning and he will report on this next month.
5. Placement on “Inactive” Status. Bob Kuzelka moved, and Jim McShane seconded, this motion: A three year grace period following payment of annual dues or free membership will be allowed before removing them from notification lists; they will be informed of this action with annual dues notices from the treasurer. Motion passed.
6. Spousal Members. Spousal Members. Bob Kuzelka moved and Jack Goebel seconded that spouses of deceased Emeriti Association members, will receive notice that they are entitled to life spousal membership and will be kept on the notification list unless they elect otherwise. President Blezek will draft a letter to be shared with the Executive Committee. The resulting will be the Notification Letter,signed by the President, that will be sent by the Membership Chair to the surviving spouse. Motion passed. Herb Howe’s spouse will also be notified retroactively.
7. Office Materials. Jack Goebel reported that he and Agnes Adams examined office materials and will contact the appropriate person to explore archiving these with the library.
8. Treasurer’s Reports. It was agreed that monthly treasurer’s reports as appended to the minutes should be reviewed at the Board Meetings for purposes of discussion. It was considered useful to have an Assistant Treasurer. Suggestions for a person should be made. Blezek stated that any final decisions regarding suggestions for an Assistant Treasurer be delayed until current Treasurer Agnes Adams is present.
9. Emergency Preparedness at Membership Meetings. Resources for this in the East Campus Union are not presently available. Bob Kuzelka will explore possibilities for this.
10. Member Relations Report: Bob Kuzelka reported that Coffee Chats were held this morning and the schedule would be coming soon. International Relations Group is also planning events to be announced.
11. Oral History: Doug Jose reported doing an additional interview.
12. Committee Reports may be needed at the Member Luncheon Meeting next week, Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at East Campus Union.
