April 2014 Association Minutes East Campus Union

A luncheon was served to approximately 53 members with 6 brown bagging members.

Program:  Vice-President, Duane Eversoll, introduced Chris R. Calkins, Professor of Animal Science in IANR who spoke on the Science Behind the Development of Beef Value Cuts.  He presented illustrations of innovative ways of getting more tender and flavorful cuts that result in greater value from each animal and profit for the beef industry as well as recognition of the UNL project internationally.  After a question period, Dr. Calkins was presented with an Emeriti Mug and thanked for his presentation.

Business Meeting.  John Comer, president, convened the business meeting at 12:43 pm.  He reminded members the Minutes and Treasurer's Report will be found on the Emeriti web site www.emeriti.unl.edu.

Memory Moments:  Barbara (Bobbi) Allen, spouse of Harold Allen, Continuing Education; Gordon A. Gallup, Chemistry and Physics; James M. May, Elementary Education; Glenn W. Peterson, Plant Pathology; and Frank A. Smith, Conservation and Survey Division.

News Coordinator(s). John Comer, announced that the Emeriti Association is seeking two or three members to serve as coordinators of Emeriti news to be included in the "UNL Today" online newsletter for faculty.  Interested members should contact John Comer, at <jcomer1@unl.edu>.

Brain Laboratory Tour.  A second tour of the new Brain Laboratory in the Stadium has been arranged for next Monday, April 21, 2014,  at 10:00 am.   Space is available for ten more people.

International Interest Group.  Arlan Etling noted a number of changes in the international programs at UNL.  He indicated that Mark Doyle, IANR, was leading some international engagement, and he distributed a questionnaire concerning ways Emeriti would be willing to be engaged with these activities.  For further information contact aetling1@unl.edu.

President's Luncheon for Retirees will be held May 23, 2014, at 11:30 am. at Embassy Suites.

Coffee House Chats.   Both will be held in the Crescent Moon Coffee House below Ten thousand Villages, 8th and P Streets; or, if weather permits, across P Street in the Courtyard.  Email reminders will be sent one week prior to the event.  Questions?  Contact Nancy Aden at nancyaden51@gmail.com.
