April 2011 Board Minutes Wick Alumni Center

Members Present: Agnes Adams, Nancy Aden, Jack Goebel, Jim Kendrick , Bob Kuzelka, Tice Miller, Alan Seagren, Stan Vasa, Dan Wheeler, Delivee Wright.
1. 1:00 pm. Meeting was called to order by Dan Wheeler, President.
2. Andrea Cranford, updated information on the Alumni Associations current activities including Football Friday on April 15, 2011.
2. Memory Moments. Ray Haggh (Music), Bob Katz {Physics), Henry Kumpost (Agric. Extension), and Bill Long (English).
3. Minutes of the February 15, 2010, Board Meeting were distributed by e-mail, corrections were made, and minutes were posted on the website. Minutes were approved as posted.
4. Agnes Adams, Treasurer, reported the balance in checking as of March 31, 2011, is $4873.00. Annual Income estimate is $6881.00. Agnes also reported that dues notices had brought in over $1800.00. Expenses were $1,118.45. Al Seagren moved and Bob Kuzelka seconded a motion the report be accepted. 

OLD BUSINESS

1. Web Site. Jim Kendrick, Chair, reported that a new tab on the Emeriti web site is Oral History, and he demonstrated a test interview with Jack Goebel. The website has moved but the old address works. Al Seagren moved and Stan Vasa seconded a motion to congratulate Jim and Herb Howe on the work they have done. Motion was unanimous.
2. 2011 Faculty Retirements. Dan Wheeler reported he will represent the Emeriti Association at the Retirement Celebration, April 21, 2011, with a two minute presentation following the Chancellors remarks. He will welcome them to their first year of Emeriti membership and provide brochures on the organization. 
Bob Kuzelka circulated a list of 22 people retiring in 2011. Mel Thornton had received this list. The total list is not available to us yet. It was suggested that Dan Wheeeler include in the mailing an insert explaining the first year of complimentary membership and how get Emeriti status if not already conferred. A special activity for new members will be held early in the fall. 
5. Plant Care for Wick Alumni Center. Jack Goebel reported that he will talk with Kim Todd regarding possible ideas for using Master Gardeners as volunteers.

NEW BUSINESS

1. Teachers for Ed. Psych. 121. Patrick McBride, Director of New Student Enrollment is coordinating a class for international students on U.S. Education in the Age of Globalization. He requested Emeriti volunteers to teach in this class. Dan will ask for a handout including information, expectations, frequency, contact information, and will invite someone to attend our next members meeting April 21, 2011 to invite participation.
1. Big-Ten Retirement Association. The annual meeting will be August 12-14, 2011, in Madison, WI. Tice Miller moved and Stan Vasa seconded the motion to pay expenses for two people. Motion passed. 

COMMITTEE REPORTS

1. Benefits: Jack Goebel reported Doug Zatechka has agreed to serve as the new Chair. The first task will be a spousal member rewrite.
2. Membership: Mel Thornton, Chair, sent a report as of April 1, 2011: 
161 Annual Members; 184 Life Members; 22 new 2011 members; 22 new 2012 members; 140 spousal members; with a total of 303 non-active members.
3. Member Relations: Bob Kuzelka, Chair, reported a tour of the Schorr Computing Center will be April 27, 2011, at 2:30 pm. 
The next Coffee Chat will be at 9:30 am, April 29, 2011, at the Bread and Cup. 
4. Oral History Project. Tice Miller reported he would like to do one more public and several private interviews yet this spring.
4. UNL Senate: No Report.
5. Web Site: Jim Kendrick reported he will add a Library web site link to our page. He also said that any Emeriti could us the SOPHOS firewall software if they have a Blackboard account. He will send the site information.
6. Wisherd Committee: Alan Seagren, Chair, No report.
The next Emeriti Board Meeting will be Tuesday, May 3, 2011, 1:00 pm at the Wick Center.
